Cherokee County has a total area of 434 square miles, of which 423 square miles is land and 11 square miles is water. Much of the water consists of Lake Allatoona in the southwest area of the county. Lake Allatoona is fed by the Etowah and Little Rivers and other large streams such as Noonday Creek. Cherokee County is credited with having nine mountains within its borders, from tallest to lowest they are: Bear Mountain, Pine Log Mountain, Oakey Mountain, Dry Pond Mountain, Hickory Log Mountain, Polecat Mountain, Byrd Mountain, Garland Mountain and Posey Mountain. The adjacent counties to Cherokee County are Pickens to the north, Forsyth to the east, Cobb to the south and Bartow County to the west. The Cherokee County public school system continues to receive very high rankings and praises, but there is also four private schools located in Cherokee County.
